In 1962, the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Diocese of London in Ontario responded to an invitation from Peruvian bishops. For 32 years the Sisters shared the Peruvian people's struggle to live, work and grow personally, spiritually and communally, thereby creating more dignified and acceptable standards of living in the valley of Zaņa.
Heart-Links was founded in 1994 by Sister Janet Zadorsky after the Sisters of St. Joseph withdrew from Peru. She saw Heart-Links as an effort to bridge the gap from isolation to friendship; from the deadening situations of disease, hunger and illiteracy to life-giving support in friendship and/or funds. Committed to continue in the spirit and in harmony with the values of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Heart-Links became an autonomous non-profit organization with charitable status in January, 2003. Heart-Links is now an ecumenical non-government organization (NGO). |
