History

In 1962, the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Diocese of London in Ontario responded to an invitation from Peruvian bishops. For 32 years the Sisters shared the Peruvian people's struggle to live, work and grow personally, spiritually and communally, thereby creating more dignified and acceptable standards of living in the desert, northern coastal valley of Zaña.

Sister Janet Zadorsky founded Heart-Links in 1994 after the Sisters of St. Joseph withdrew from Peru. She saw Heart-Links as an effort to bridge the gap between isolation and friendship, to move from the deadening situations of disease, hunger and illiteracy to life-giving support in friendship and/or funds.

Committed to continue in harmony with the values of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Heart-Links became a secular, autonomous non-profit organization with charitable status in January 2003.
