Peru Projects: Family Worker

  group discussion

Drawing on her long experience in the Zaña Valley, Delicia Romero Ampuero (Deli) works closely with the comedor mothers, their families and others in the community. The counseling and support she provides address a wide range of the health and social issues experienced by the poor in rural Peru. These include teen pregnancies, adolescents who have abandoned school and increasing incidences of family violence. Tuberculosis, bronchitis and other respiratory ailments are prevalent.

A large portion of the Emergency and Contingency Funds (supplied by Heart-Links) that she disburses helps with medications and travel to obtain health care.

DeliIn Their Own Words...

“Delicia Romero (Deli), the Family Worker, is the person to whom people with little or no regular family income turn for advice, counsel, and moral and material support.”
