Women play an important—but often unacknowledged and unrewarded—role in agriculture in northern Peru. Sexism has combined with limited access to education, training and resources to keep women from obtaining better paying jobs, increasing the productivity of their plots, and assuming leadership roles in their communities and equality in their homes.

To strengthen the economic position and leadership of women in 25 rural families in Zaña and Cayaltí, Latidos will deliver workshops on issues relating to gender, farming, marketing, nutrition and sustainability. Participants will grow and market their own produce and participate in local agricultural fairs.
